Madonna: Diva Re-invented

Artist reviewed by:
SongBlog

“I stood back and watched everyone else watching her, and that’s when I knew she was going to be a star.”

- Moira, Madonna’s childhood friend when she first saw her on the dance floor. Madonna was 12.

I personally think that Madonna is the Queen of Reinvention of the Reinvention, of herself and of other artists that she greatly influenced ranging from Gwen Stefani to Britney Spears and even to various boy bands. Madonna has also paved the way for many young artists, such as the female ones to rise up and also reinvent themselves.

Although Madonna had been the hot stuff in the press and gained a kind of reputation wherein she was in the middle of being loved and being hated but for me, this was a very brave act for her to do and to let everybody in the world know who Madonna is - a bold, brave young woman who did not cease to be heard and felt. From a disco-going girl at twelve, she has undergone intense and an abrupt metamorphosis, being the ever-changing-color butterfly that she is, making her way into her very own garden.

Madonna is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and dancer. Since her debut in 1983, she became a significant figure in pop culture. She is cited as a cultural icon in USA. Her influence in the entertainment industry has garnered wide-spread commentaries and analysis from the critics, the public and the media. An example of this is the term "Madonna wannabe" wherein young girls have the tendency to bleach their hair too, just like Madonna’s style herself. She has also influenced in terms of clothing. What Madonna wears is the new trend. Madonna does not go with the flow of the music and the industry; she is her own current. She is the biggest-selling female recording artist of all time, with an estimated $500 million fortune. Madonna has shifted more than 300 million albums worldwide and won 273 awards, including Brits, Grammys and a Golden Globe. She was even certified by Guinness World Record as the best-selling artist.

But who influenced Madonna for her to be the legend that she is?

Like any artist, Madonna has taken inspiration from various personalities ranging from Marilyn Monroe to Led Zeppelin. Billboard editor Comer stated: "Although Madonna had her influences, she created her own unmistakable style... She wrote her own ticket; she didn't have to follow anybody's formula. She declared who she was ... and took possession of her music".

Madonna, is a perfect example of an artist who struggled to get attention and she got more than that; she bathed in criticism and praises but all I can really say is she has embraced fame and fame has likewise embraced her and maybe will never let go of her.
