I'll warn you upfront. This will be the most shallow music blog I probably have ever written. It's not even really about music, but you will find out by reading on.
It hasn't gone unnoticed to me, and the rest of the world, that something's looking rather different with Britney Spears. With the official pictures for her renewed Vegas show, I'd already noticed a change in her face. It looked slimmed down somehow. I actually couldn't figure it out. Then, all kinds of videos got posted up to her Instagram showing off her new body.
It turns out that she had used the break from her Vegas show for a little more than recording a possible new album: She had hit the gym. The results show, because she has managed to get her old body back and then some.
Last week, she was even accused of photoshopping her Instagram shots. It all just looked too good to be true. And her response has been to post more pictures.
I will be the first to point out, that our magazine covers and female pop stars make up like 10% of women all around the world. Due to their exposure, however, they get the other 90% obsessing about how they look.
In most cases, those 90% of women have studies or work, which takes up most of the day. Pop stars and models have the time to be in the gym daily. In fact, you can consider this part of their work day. If the rest of us would get that time too, everyone would look like a star or model. However, we, the 90% of other women, get to indulge on chocolate, cookies, fries, pasta etc, which they don't. Ha! Just thought I'd put that into perspective for you.
Still, I can't deny that Britney's transformation has got me dazzled, just the same. It's not the fact she's done it, it's more the feeling that she seems to have done in the blink of an eye. It really does get you thinking about how fast you can make changes.
Whether she's also changing things up in her music remains to be seen. In the last few years, she's has exchanged her commercial pop sound for a commercial dance sound. It'll be interesting to see where she's going next.
Even though it doesn't feel like Britney still has the same impact on the music business as she did earlier in her career - after all, a lot of other female pop stars have emerged since her - it's clear that all eyes are still remaining on her, nevertheless. She's considered an icon and therefore is still the inspiration to many female pop stars out there.
