Coldplay Introduces, Bruno Slides, Beyoncé Slams
In light of the amazing halftime show performances during the Superbowl, this year’s Superbowl 50 Halftime Show was just awesome! Not even that statement alone is enough to describe how it all went down. Coldplay, Bruno Mars, and Beyoncé are being said to have upstaged the football event. Yes, every year we watch the Superbowl. I have to say, I am one that does not follow the game of football dedicatedly but I do watch the Superbowl and I always look forward to the Superbowl Hafltime Show then finally the winner of the game. When I heard that Bruno Mars and Beyoncé were going to perform, I was like, “Didn’t they already perform within the recent and prior Superbowls?” I shrugged it off and was excited to watch their performance together anyway. Besides, they are undoubtedly great performers in their own style and genre. I couldn’t wait to watch what they had in store for us.
It all started with Coldplay’s introduction with “Viva La Viva”. It was just the right feel to welcome you to the beginning of the show. The stage lit up and presented various patterns of color and designs. The football field filled with energy from the music and audience as he performed, “Paradise”. The screams and yelling could be heard echoing all around and upward. Coldplay’s performance rocked the stage as everybody could definitely feel the hype and excitement. The field was adorned with more colors and decoration, even fireworks shot up into the sky. The ensemble was truly colorful and delightful for all audiences seated there live or at home in front of the television. Just then, as Coldplay finishes their song, “Adventure of a Lifetime”, we hear what seems to sound like, “Hold up!” Next performer is up!
At a distance we can watch DJ Mark Ronson tearin’ it up on the turntables. The beats from the vinyl drop the new tempo and scratches sing from the needle as if to introduce the next performer. A small group of men step up and start the song to Bruno Mar’s, “Uptown Funk”, with of course in center front, Bruno Mars! More screaming and yelling from the crowd, and we’re off into the 2nd segment of the show. Bruno and his crew just makes you want to dance as you watch them perform on stage. His cool and smiley look welcomes and thanks everybody for being there and further says, “Let’s party!” Bruno even gives us a sample of his awesome dancing skills. A few more lyrics and dance, and him and his crew drop into a pose. Camera angle changes and we look toward the far left side of the football field.
We hear her voice and know it well. She commands her team to get in formation and we watch Beyoncé’s crew of all women move in dance style. A close-up on Beyoncé and she smirks to give you that look, “You know who I am.” She then smiles as if to say, “I’m ready to party! What’s up, everybody… Hey, Bruno.” Her and her crew makes their way onto the stage, performing her new song, “Formation”. Beyoncé and Bruno exchange challenging words in lyrical style from their own songs. The beat drops again and good ol’ battle mode begins.
Beyoncé and her team slam their dance moves across the stage to make their presence felt. Their awesome moves show power and strength, a combination that is definitely something not to mess with. Bruno and his crew respond with a more cool and casual move. They seem to slide and float along their side of the stage. A combination of suave and style put into fancy footwork. Finally, they end with a nonchalant pose asking for more. Beyoncé again gives him more, this time with more fierceness. Bruno walks, or should I say glides, the rest of the way to meet Beyoncé in the center.
They both stand in each other’s face in combative style. The beat drops again and they move in sync, doing more damage as a team and giving the audience just what they want… an awesome and grand show. Finally, Coldplay comes up from behind to join them. The trio walks down center stage in all their awesomeness. As they reach the end of the song, Beyoncé pushes the camera angle to the side to show the energy and excitement of the crowd. We get what we were waiting for in a Superbowl Halftime Show! Oh, but that’s not the end of it!
Coldplay continues with, “Clocks”, while footage is presented in tribute that is reminiscent of classic bands and performers who performed in the Superbowl within the last 50 years. Coldplay includes parts of Prince’s “Purple Rain” and U2’s “Beautiful Day”. Everybody is on stage and the trio finishes Coldplay’s song, “Up & Up”. In the distance, the audience formulates a colorful sign that reads, “Believe In Love” as the performers and everybody sing it as the ending words.
