I feel so classy right now! Oh, you’d feel that bitter taste of envy if you only knew how classy! I am so classy and sophisticated that even classiness is not so classy and all-sufficient as I am. And so I want to talk about something proper and respective – a real classics. So this time it’s Ambitious Lovers. Do you love Ambitious Lovers? Hope you do.
Ambitious Lovers was a band founded by Arto Lindsay and Peter Scherer. A glorious band which, however, has not became popular. Too bad. But anyway Lovers’ music became a true cult among many music maniacs of the world. The band was active between the mid eighties and the early nineties. They planned to make albums dedicated to the seven deadly sins. But the band released only three albums: “Envy” (1984); “Greed” (1988); and “Lust” (1991).
Lovers’ music is a mix of pop and avant-garde experiments, new wave, bossa nova, synth and art rock. And it feels like you’re home. Yes, their music is like a tasty food: warm, melodic, sophisticated, pretty complicated, though simple and familiar. It’s like you are sitting in your room, in your favorite chair, drinking wine and talking to a gorgeous woman you love. What else do you need? Good music and a fireplace; and nothing else in this world really makes sense. You talk, laugh and kiss. You are happy and there is no need in rushing. Perfect! “It only has to happen once” is playing. But you both do realize that it’s forever. So romantic and so right.
Ambitious Lovers featured many notable and talented artists. This band helped a lot of musicians in their further careers. It’s really strange when sounds like these do not gain popularity. But, perhaps, it’s even better like that. A true cult cannot be something annoying and obtrusive with reminders coming from everywhere.
