DMB: Crash Into Me

In the past I have written about the magic that comes along with listening to some of the Dave Matthews Band music. It is very unique music in the fact that I can’t seem to categorize it in any certain genre. It carries the sound of a folky, funky, jazz sounding rollercoaster mixed with a bit of rock. It all amounts to a sound that took the country by storm in the 90’s and is still entertaining many music lovers today. But the music isn’t the only thing that people love about the group, it’s also the lyrics.

Dave Matthews himself has a wonderful voice, he is very vocal about some of the lyrics he writes. One is able to notice the passion that he carries with some of his music by the way sings the lyrics. Whether it is whispering or screaming, he brings a very engaging attitude to the stage. So what about his lyrics? In an interview Dave said that all of his songs are about sex, even the ones that aren’t. In a lot of his songs you are able to pretty easily notice the references, but what people don’t always notice is the deeper meaning behind some of the songs.

Many people might recognize the Dave Matthews Band as one that is centered on adolescence love. In my opinion, I can see why they might think that, based on what the band has to say in some of their lyrics. I think Dave tends to sing about different relationships in which he is very familiar and comfortable with his lover. Many people might think it’s about the classic past love relationship that he sings about but what indication is there of the past? I believe his music is about being so consumed in these relationships that you don’t want to ever leave them or forget about them.
