Dirty South is deep inside of me. Dirty, sweaty south is where I’m from. Madness and hopelessness, magick and misery, dust and whiskey, amphetamine and the Sun. Dirty South is something you can only feel. You won’t get it, you won’t find out about it. You will never get used to it. Dirty South got to be in you. It’s strong and rough. It’s magical and slow. The slow sun is burning your soul through your dusty skin. You want sex all the time. You want to get out of there all the time. You want to drink the ocean and laugh with the witches. You wanna scream in the middle of the desert just to remind yourself that you are alive. And this sand, this sea, this dust and sweat –it’s all true and even too real. You do not want to see the things you see. You do not want to hear the things you hear. All you want to do is feel something else. Something different. But no matter where you go you will always be a man from the South. You will always see and feel this South even when you want to forget it. Even when you think you have changed. Even. You will always miss this Dirty South. This craziness and hopelessness. You will always carry it inside. It will be your precious secret. Your best friend and enemy. This Dirty South. You will always see the Sun in your own special way. You will always miss the sea and the dust. That special kind of dust only South possesses. You will talk to the sun and the stars, and the moon. And they will know you like a desperate southern man in the middle of nowhere. You will always have special relationships with alcohol and drugs. It’s like a mark on you. Nowhere to run. And there is no any point in it. You are a southern man.
