Sloath

Sloath are a renowned psychedelic stoner doom band from Brighton. They have so far released two massive albums, the latest of which came out back in 2014 and is titled Deep Mountain. Their first self-titled album however came out back in 2010, and while it has perhaps received less attention than their second full-length, then it is of equal, if not even better quality.

The first self-titled album of Sloath packed some truly astonishing psychedelic stoner doom heavyness, and catcy repetitive and noisy sludge riffage. Massive and epic tracks such as Cane Trader, Black Hole and Please Maintain all carry about this highly memorable almost krautish stoner doom, that has the feedback filled feel of Bong, yet the heavy riffage of Sleep, Stonehelm or any of the stoner doom greats. Perhaps the right thing to say here is that these tracks have a feel of Sloath. As Sloath undoubtedly pulled off one massive no-nonsense feedback filled stoner doom album. Such good stoner doom is truly hard to come by these days. Deep Mountain has however followed up to their great debut album pretty well. Although it has perhaps somewhat moved towards more conventional stoner doom with a psych rock twist. Either way Deep Mountain carries with it the feel of Japanese underground psych together with some massive stoner riffage in the vein of Harvey Milk essentially from start to finish.

All in all Sloath should be one of the stoner doom legends in my humble opinion, but somehow their albums have not gotten that much attenton. And I am talking especially about their first self-titled album, which remains as one of my favorite stoner doom albums of all time.
