The musician had directed at Carnegie Hall in New York, at La Scala and even during the Super Bowl, but still lacks an important arena to conquer: the Vienna State Opera.
Getting to the Vienna State Opera has taken time, in a project that has matured the last four years. The director recalled that has been educated as a symphonic musician and his relationship with the opera has been built up gradually since its first performances in this genre in Berlin and La Scala.
'' I was 24 and when I see that and I see myself, ten years later, it's amazing how much I learned, '' said Dudamel in a meeting with the press prior to release.
Dudamel, who has directed many times musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic, with whom he will perform at the Opera, said that the road to this scenario was the right time to finally get to '' this temple of art ''.
The director of the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic stressed how important it is for him to take time to learn and prepare new projects.
'' I have not the possibility of making an opera in two or three days, as many colleagues. I have not the skill. I will need time to learn, create and enjoy the atmosphere '' he said.
Dudamel and directed this work in December in Caracas with Simon Bolivar and Turandot character played by soprano Lise Lindstrom American, who will also be at the premiere in Vienna.
'' She had the opportunity to learn a lot about the system and it was very beautiful, '' Dudamel said, referring to the system of youth orchestras and youth choirs of Venezuela in which he started.
