There was a time when Fito Paez made good records. It began exactly 30 years ago with Twists, the album currently the singer pays tribute with a series of concerts in Argentina. Democracy was emerging and it shows in a recording made by a witness who was not indifferent to hostile context and bloody imposed by general and accomplices until 1983, year of illusions among those desperate dictatorship.
Spins follows a path traveled by artists like Charly Garcia, who two years earlier had published modern Clicks, another record in a time of exile and distress in which Paez recorded the time teclados.Esta Rosario, at 22 years old, succeeds a masterpiece with his second album that musically shows the imprint of traditional Argentine rhythms with rock, which sounds to tango, chacarera, and baguala.
"Confrontation with the figure of Charly (...) handling the rock can tell true and I touch all Garcia, but also put my tango and folk heritage, and I will not leave. It sounds funny now, but at that time was almost disrespecting the Buenos Aires musical aristocracy "said Paez in an interview with the newspaper Pagina 12 March 2013.
From the beginning it shows. The first piece "Money" is the manifesto of the Argentine bandoneon generations that serves to highlight, as the topic name implies, a letter about changes, other collective perspectives and thinking of an individual in this emerging context.
"Tachycardia" is an influence of Charly. The artist has been recognized as "an electric outburst" derived from the disk intensive therapy responsible for "Dinosaurs". Something similar happens with "ever going to be free" and "Narciso and Quasimodo", where the influence of Luis Alberto Spinetta noticeable, made confessed by the author of Money.
The innocence of two poor children in Corrientes heard in "11 and 6" space for sentiment and delivery in the middle of a rarefied context where look askance. Without going very far, Fito again speaks of his country, gore and hope "I come to offer my heart" hundreds of times versioned, written from impotence by the atrocious last letter and the possibility of a better future .
Nor should we think they were absorbed in concerns about changes then nothing more types. It was also a time of excess. "If you're between returning and not returning / if and You put too much on your nose / if you're as blind power / jump off a ground wire", sings the composer in the seventh song of the album, directed to Charly and other musician friends.
"Hasty decisions" presents a direct and annoying Fito the Falklands War, the military disaster with which the generals of the dictatorship manipulated to a country and a generation who died in the front by the delirium of a few.
Spins ends with the desire to free collective madness impositions on "DLG". The street as a place of resurrection to the grief and fear with Argentine folklore sounds like a return to start with better prospects.
