This week's throwback will be short but sweet as Oreo milkshake. Motion was a debut album by The Cinematic Orchestra and it was released in 1999 under Ninja Tune label. The idea for the album came from Jason Swinscoe, the frontman of the band who worked on combining huge number of samples. He was collecting samples from the albums that inspired him for years and years. The result was an enormous collection of jazz samples and melodies.

As he did not want to do the whole job with the help of samples and computers, Jason had also created a band and gave them a task. Their job was to listen to his collection and to improvise on the themes. Everything on Motion is in the domain of classic - from the bass lines to riffs. Each track was additionally produced by Jason Swinscoe and brought to perfection with the aim to translate his vision of jazz and electronic fusion. I must note that Jason Swinscoe is an experienced producer of electronic music.

With the help of Patrick Carpenter, ex member of DJ Food association who was responsible for the gramophones, it can be said that tje connection between jazz and avant-garde electronic was made. The connection was not as epic as Swinscoe was imagining it to be, but for me it was epic enough to discover it to you. The album deserves it.
