Wildflower's debut

UK trio Wildflower (Idris Rahman on sax and flute, Leon Brichard on bass, and Tom Skinner on drums) has delivered a very promising debut with their self-titled record. It is an album that’s taking inspiration from spiritual jazz greats such as John Coltrane, Yusef Lateef, Sun Ra and Pharoah Sanders. This 31-minute release ranges from hypnotic melodies such as on opening tracks “Flute Song” and “Where the Earth Meets the Sky”, to more intense parts like Idris Rahman’s sax on “Long Way Home”, to a surprising groove on “Hogol” as opposed to the rest of the album.

Through the entire record, Wildflower take you on an intense, meditative and spiritual musical journey that breathes in the spirit of freedom. The hypnotic grooves are laid down by Brichard’s creative bass lines and drummer Skinner’s innovative beats, grooving hard in unexpected turns of rhythmic interplay. Rahman’s contributions range from subtle melodies to loudly, almost angry passion. The whole album sounds like a delicate musical conversation. Rather than having a tight rigid structure, the tunes are allowed to breathe and develop into new unexplored forms, allowing fresh interpretations that make each performance a unique experience.

The album is a collection of live and studio recordings that have been recorded and mixed by the band. You can listen to and buy the album here:https://wildflowermusic.bandcamp.com/album/wildflower
