'Thinking About You' the first song where I was introduced to Norah Jones. Known for Jazz styled songwriting and a piano melody all her own. Years have passed since the release of 'Thinking About You' and after rediscovering the other day how much of an impact the song had on those years seems significant. For one, when Jones comes on the radio you instinctively turn up the volume, roll up the windows and begin to unwind. Soaking up the vocals which have soothed yet another long day and an even battered batch of emotional discord. Secondly, 'Thinking About You' hits a particular emotion, dead on and without fault. The audience like in the music video stands up and applauds, which is where the rest of us are doing too.
Jones use of conceptual thoughts, drawn out as well as changing from scene to scene in the video for 'Thinking About You' plays out beautifully. As hard as it is to develop a feeling for someone else, it's a whole other concept to actually end up a relationship with them and imagining an entire life.
One aspect that always stuck out was the pure nature of the song. An innocence lingers from the daydreams we have about someone. Not everything has to be Rated X on the thought process scale. Jones offered up a piece of her own idealistic and daydream personality with those of us that do the same. While living life, day to day, we soak in the words spoken to us from someone we've fallen head over heels towards. No matter the circumstance, each day seems a little brighter and we notice that light in return. Happiness is not gifted to an individual because of another. It's gifted because we've allowed ourselves to become emerged in a singular happy emotion for a while. Jones shows this with 'Thinking About You' with the first handful of lyrics. Without any doubt 'Thinking About You' deserves an award for noticing those small daydream feelings that help us get through the day.
