We all know what it’s like to turn 23. We are well into our adult years by this time and it’s assumed by everyone, including ourselves, that we would have everything figured out by now (but will we ever?). Well, pop songstress and lyricist Jasmine Thakral is here to remind us that we are not alone in those feelings of doubt and questioning who we are and where we are supposed to be.
The UK based indie pop artist Jasmine Thakral is set to release her pop song “Turning 23.” A song inspired by her own uncertainty in who she is as an adult, she shares that with every other young adult going through the same thing. She sings “When I try to breathe yeah it crushes down on me,” to a synthetic pop melody similar to that of Olivia Rodrigo. The lyrics are so relatable it makes the music even more impactful and memorable.
“I wrote turning 23 the day before I turned 23,” says Jasmine. “It was a time when I was feeling worried about the future and had a lot of uncertainty of what direction to take. The track was also inspired by the fact that when you turn 23, there are a lot of expectations to have your life and career sorted out.”
While Taylor Swift gives us a song about turning 22, Jasmine Thakral gives us a more realistic song about turning 23. Jasmine Thakral should be at the top of your “Artists to Keep My Eyes On” list, as she’s layered in honesty, truth, and professionalism at such a young age.
