Bangkok-based singer-songwriter Phum Viphurit excels at capturing the push-pull dynamic that underscores the beginning of so many relationships. "Lover Boy", which is presumably the first glimpse of his upcoming sophomore album, is a funk-inflected and sunlit confession from a lovesick yet relatively reticent Romeo: 'Darling, I got my trust issues/ Warning, you stay away/ If we meet at the rendezvous/ Take me away, sunray.' Despite the lyrical ambiguity, the song's surf guitars and Viphurit's warm and soulful vocals appear to point towards to a foregone and unambiguous conclusion: a romantic connection in an idyllic seaside setting.
The accompanying music video was directed Khamkwan Duangmanee; it features Viphurit wooing a beautiful young woman wearing a T-shirt that says "Young and Wild." They flirt through the tourist-filled streets and beaches of Pattaya, decked in the now-familiar '80s stylings. Towards the end of the video, his muse cannot help but start dancing along to his tune - a predicament that most listeners should find themselves in.
