Every Third X File

Although most of us know David Duchovny as Molder from Dossier X, not a lot of us know that this multifaceted actor is also a singer who recently released his sophomore album titled Every Third Thought.

What does he offer us? No, there are no aliens, eerie cases and unresolved mysteries, but there is a pretty interesting amalgam of soft-rock and sporadically beautiful lyrics. Unfortunately, there is no significant difference between songs, melodies are relatively similar, and even after a few spins, it won't be clear which song are you listening to. If there was an Emmy for a brilliant mediocracy, David Duchovny would win it for this album. His voice is equalized, deep and soft, which reminded me of what Chris Rea was delivering with his interpretation.

Half Life is a number that easily falls into your ears, with a sagacious verses.

Matter decays exponentiallyHalf-lives always dissolve eventuallyIt all winds up in the ground

It won't take long before you catch yourself dancing to the hypnotic guitar riff. Suffused with melancholy, Half Life is the only track that will remain stuck in your head for a while. Title track Every Third Thought holds similar melancholic tone and spurs the same question a la Why do things end the way they do.

Why do I remain the sameWhy the sky must be blue

I don't know, David. The only thing I know is that you have chosen melancholy as the main theme for your second record. When it comes to the rest of the album, there is nothing I can particularly emphasize. The only other track worth mentioning is Someone Else's Girl where he deals with love problems.

Let me get this straight - Every Third Thought is certainly not an album that is going to end up in Billboard 100, but it is definitely a soundtrack for a nice, relaxing ride.
