Can’t get you out of my head! Isn’t that what we all say when have that person stuck in our head, playing on an endless, looping reel? Well, Atlas Genius, an indie band from Adelaide, South Australia takes it one step further and has it akin to a Trojan virus / Trojan horse in their aptly titled song, Trojans, as though the feelings of love being lodged there was planned all along, sneakily, of course.
The upbeat melody underscores a melancholic love that was never really planned. It happens anyways, much to the chagrin of the persona, who is now attempting to dislodge the feelings, with little success:
Oh, oh
Your trojan's in my head
Oh, oh
Your trojan's in my head
Your trojan's in my head
Genius
This 2013 song is still relevant today, all things said. Trojans received its first favourable review from Neon Gold, who said that, "[the group] knocks on your door and creeps into your peripheries in stealth mode" and that the single "approaches Phoenix-esque levels of infectiousness".
Take a picture you could never recreate
Write a song, make a note
For the lump that sits inside your throat
Change the locks, change the scene
Change it all, but can't change what we've been
Those lyrics remind me of how easy it is to lose yourself in someone and finding a way out is extremely difficult because nothing you do helps at all. To me, I’ve made my note, changed the locks, changed the scene and thankfully though I can’t change what we’ve been, I certainly say that I am a better person for it now. Love is universal, after all and whilst not everyone feels the same way about another, we can still love each other in many different ways.
Here’s to taking a real picture that could never be recreated in a million years, because those memories are still memories.
