Nothing like a bright pop song to illuminate your day and Youngblood Hawke's (an indie band from LA) We Come Running does this genre of upbeat pop meets inspirational music much justice. I personally have been listening to it over the past few days over and over again and find myself exteremly pumped whenever I listen to it. With a catchy hook and an easy-to-follow chorus, this song has the hallmarks of that song you pump out in droves when you're either feeling really down or really elated. Just look at the lyrics:
Headed for the open door
Tell me what you're waiting for
Look across the great divide
Soon they're gonna hear
The sound, the sound, the sound
When we come running
Never go where we belong
Echoes in the dead of dawn
Soon they're gonna know
The sound, the sound, the sound
When we come running
Genius
Opening to mostly positive reviews, critics have called We Come Running a song with "a ridiculously catchy hook", "deliciously radiant vibe" and "is the perfect mixture of organic and electronic sounds, with inspirational lyrics to boot" and "that the song's lush textures shimmer with positivity" and is "energetic" and "triumphant". I'll have to fully agree with that. Considering it is about a good sort of rebellion ("never go where we belong"), perhaps this is the kind of music we need in this day and age, where fighting the good fight and keeping up the rebellion is the only way forward.
