When Jake Bugg came out onto the scene, no one knew where in the hell to place this crafted young genius of a musician. Better yet, everyone wanted to call him the new Bob Dylan but, Bugg had rough edges that offered a different kind of persona than Dylan. Bugg showed his roots from the first song and continues to hang on to those roots which give Bugg a unique appeal.
So as "How Soon The Dawn" came out, after listening one or two things stuck out, Bugg's vocal composition sounds more mature but, Bugg seems to have lost the accent attached. Clearly, "How Soon The Dawn" is a departure from Bugg's more rigorous tracks like "Lightning Bolt". Although in defense Bugg has been able to deliver an exceptionally great acoustic song without hesitation.
"How Soon The Dawn" forms into a song about love rather than purely a love song. Bugg sings from experience and shares vital images which influenced the track. With the accompanying music video for "How Soon The Dawn" Bugg talks about how even the lighter songs tend to shed some darker tones and vice versa, adding that balance is needed to promote a well-rounded acoustic number.
Hearing the distinction between the lyrics and the elements of lighthearted chords shows extraordinary songwriting abilities. The fact that there is any distinction at all helps identify where the musician is within creative growth.
Bugg doesn't falter to the wayside with another acoustic song, each time Bugg releases a new track something shifts in the industry. Be it emotional or slightly vulnerable, Bugg walks a thin line between songwriter and truth-seeker. Give and take seems to be Bugg's motto with life, yet as a young adult barely in the prime of his youth many more challenges will face this musician, only in time will the songs tell the stories surrounding Bugg's journey in this life.
