Making Amends

Omaha group Twinsmith, consisting of Jordan Smith (vocals/guitar), Matt Regner (guitar/keys), Bill Sharp (bass) and Oliver Morgan (drums), whose up and coming album (14th July 2017) Stay Cool had an initial release of one of the tracks - Matters. Matters' ambience is an eclectic mix of both early-era shoegaze and classic rock. Singing about the things that matter in a relationship, despite it having broken down into pieces:

Holding back through all these years

I don’t care, you don’t mind

For only you, I would die

Let my guard down and make it right

One can go on further to add that attempting pick up the broken pieces and mend them together is noble, though the subject “does not mind” and the persona “does not care”. In that, it is for the best that they separate, despite the protectiveness that the persona has for the subject (“Cut the ties off / and do what’s right”). Also, the persona does not care for the little things, and is mainly concerned with how the aftermath of the relationship will pan out. Despite this, “for only you / I would die / let my guard down and make it right,” indicating that there is some sort of lingering love for the subject that the persona still holds onto and wants to use in order to restore their prior relationship to its former glory.

All that’s been said and done, cannot be undone, but as the cliché goes: all’s fair in love and war (even when it matter no more).
