"Capacity" the second album coming from Big Thief follows vocalist/guitarist Adrianne Lenker through the stories she has lived throughout her life. One thing after another seems to have transpired for the musician and even then "Mythological Beauty" plays along as a confessional confrontation. Director Vanessa Haddad chose a filming style that timelessly combines an eerie exist outside of our technological reality. Some middle was created by M. Night Shyamalan and David Lynch, this is where Vanessa Haddad comes in. Watching "Mythological Creature" unfold is a cinematic adventure, from the snowy landscape and the sudden change in demeanor. Towards the ritualistic offering/saving of the friend who has collapsed which leads us along towards an open operation where Lenker's character simply seems to slide into the body of her friend.
"Mythological Beauty" comes out from Big Thief's debut "Masterpiece" which won over critics and journalist alike. A type of kinship developed amongst writers who turn to Big Thief for inspiration. As far as the unusual storytelling elements go, one might suspect the utmost unpredictable circumstances surrounding these stories being told. Almost as if "Mythological Beauty" opens a portal to an unknown landscape of odd realistic possibility. Even though that is the case, "Mythological Beauty" follows Lenker's childhood trauma moment (being hit in the head with a railroad spike and nearly bleeding to death) and how a mother of three would react to such an incident or even cope.
Big Thief channel the right temperament, space and musical alignment for "Mythological Beauty". Which for Capacity means depending on the first single allows the audience to experience a savory unruly point. What do we question about ourselves? Have we thought about our past, where do the puzzles piece together and what was happening in the minds of everyone surrounding me?
