Sick of Losing Soulmates tells us an emotional story of how two people try to still be friends after a break up. This is one of Dodie Clark’s biggest songs that were officially released on Vevo. It really tugs at your heart strings as Dodie’s subtle voice slowly sings out the well-thought-out lyrics. The harmony for this song is really complex to listen to but very simple to learn. It’s also a little hard to follow with melody but hey, I guess we can’t all be that talented, right?
Dodie made a video on her secondary channel doddlevloggle explaining the meaning of this song. “I decided to explain the lyrics a little bit, because not a lot of you are getting what it’s about. But that's okay.”, Dodie says in a cheeky voice. “For me, the song is about trying to stay friends after a relationship, it can be difficult for being such good friends. For me, I’ve lost best friends in the past and I lost them all. They just kinda faded away and I’m done with that. I’m done with losing my best friends, my soulmates, people who I could spend the rest of my life with.”, she further explains.
In the video, she also shares the story of how she went through an abusive relationship where the other person controlled her actions and directed her away from her friends and everything. Then, a really nice person comes along and gets her out of that relationship and they start dating. After a while, they break up and here they are trying to stay as friends. She did however, cleared up the fact that the song is most definitely about the nice person that got her out of the relationship and not the bad person she used to date. She also read a few lyrics and explained their meanings individually. You can view the original video here, as well as the tutorial and karaoke for the song.
This song really has carved a spot in my heart and I can’t help but feel very emotional when listening to it. The music video also features two women who are in a relationship, which made me really happy. But also, broke up by the end of the video. You can view the original music video below:
