Feist is back. Our favorite Indie Mother who solidified a genre with a quirky unique structure stylized within music that could only somewhat fit within the constraints of Indie. While Feist has been away for six years without a new album or even the three plus years where a single live show has not been played. It seems quite fair that Feist was given a break to establish Pleasure upon our wondrous ears. Funny enough, Pleasure comes off as a welcome back present to Feist's most devoted listeners. Quite literally the lyric 'It's a pleasure' seems to direct it's attention towards "It's a pleasure being back and singing to you". Or at least that's how many of us are interrupting the new track.
Technically Feist hasn't taken too much time off. While coming off of her last tour, going straight to the studio and taking a year to record... Feist only received maybe a solid year in a total of some needed down time.
So Pleasure is the product of taking the time to construct the kind of music you'd want to curate. Feist advancement moves towards rushing thoughts and a somewhat instrument heavy laden track. Pleasure at the sudden end becomes glorified and an upstanding track. Most enjoyable is the slow progressive build Pleasure is structured. As the instruments are introduced one by one, then vocals and eventually a climax of the thrill. If you will, in the exact feelings ushered in as a pleasurable moment, this song classifies what an audio may compromise of how pleasure could be used as sonic rhythm.
Nowhere down the line did it say that Feist played by the rules, but that is what is so insurmountable about Feist as a musician. Play by the rules life a dull life, but play by life live to the fullest extent. Pleasure promises exactly what we feel and more.
