Lord Huron Seeks The Night We Met and So Do We

Upon first listening to The Night We Met, I ended up scrambling around trying to figure out where I had heard the song before. Of course, as many of you may know from watching Netflix's newest show Thirteen Reasons Why, Lord Huron's song is played once the two protagonists start to dance together.  Solidifying Lord Huron is immediate television/Netflix history.

Since Lord Huron started in 2010, The Night We Met comes off of their second album Strange Trails. Where in a collective effort it could be said that the band crafted an album out of every influence from the Indie genre. Strange Trails came out in 2015 however, Lord Huron are on the verge of a resurgence, thanks to an already popular show used in a critical developing scene.

The Night We Met has all the right capabilities of a love song. From the swooning echoes of 'ohs' starting off and transitioning into a layered song with an acoustic guitar. Once the lyrics come into play, the narrator asks only to take him back to the night when he met the one. Without fail the track does carry a flame of heartache and want. All the while addressing an already bygone moment.

Don't get me wrong, there is a sadness provoked in this song. Because even though this strong connection exists, the lyrics describe a series of years which have transpired and now everything is solely based on memory.

Lord Huron gift The Night We Met as a cautioned tale about time lost and love lost. One of the oldest known ways as a theme for a song. Especially if there happens to be any merit to the story. Which and I keep bringing up but Thirteen Reasons Why actually used the track to an advantage. While the lyrics and the storyline coincide beautifully and eventually address the foreshadowing the show is built around.
