Autotelic, for me is an underrated band. A lot of people even from my country don’t know about this amazing indie alternative rock band. So, this article is a calling to all of you people that don’t know about Autotelic. It also just occurred to me that autotelic is actually a word itself. According to the dictionary “autotelic” is a formal adjective that literally means “(of an activity or a creative work) having an end or purpose in itself.” And those are plus points to the bands already amazing façade.
Laro has got to be Autotelic’s most famous song. “Laro” means game or to play. The lyrics of this song were beautifully made and I love the figure of speech it plays along the words. The band described the song as something that pertains to the idea of games. When we were young, our perspective of games was quite simple but as we grew older the idea of games was much more complex and now it was people being “played”.
The voicings in this song are perfectly executed and placed. The keyboard line in the intro is just pure amazing. You’ll be bouncing to the beat but will suddenly stop when you hear the heartbreaking lines.
