'Sign of the Times' is coming out at the exact right time. Once the men from One Direction decided to go there separate ways, many wondered if each band member would become a solo artist or pursue other sectors of their career. Harry Styles was one that nearly everyone had their eye on. While ending up acting in Christopher Nolan's latest film 'Dunkirk' coming out this Summer, Styles can be seen in the official trailer. As well as recent as this past Saturday Styles was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
As numerous reports have stated 'Sign of the Times' has a clear Bowie feel as well as a T. Rex inspiration. The track seems to be solely dedicated to the groove of the music, instead of being a modern day expectant track. Yet, the song will in time become an instant classic favored by those of us who expected nothing short of... astonishing.
Starting out as a piano ballad Styles echoes out how "this is the final show, I hope you are wearing your best clothes". Oddly enough as far as lyrics go it sounds as if 'Sign of the Times is a type of farewell song. Styles continues to soothe the fears by telling us "to stop our crying" and "they keep telling us that the end is near, we have to get away from here".
The soaring piano, drum, and guitar ballad beg to differ one thing. Styles may have crafted a song solely apparent in the world's recent construct of events, famous individuals, that have shaped the world and how will anyone of us be able to deal with the loss? 'Sign of the Times' may be the most acceptable track to come out this year. But the question remains will 'Sign of the Times' be a defining song in the years to come?
