Whether it's the end of a relationship or an unrequited love, everyone goes through the motions of waiting to end it all of else. Hozier seemed like the perfect choice to challenge the lyrical component with his song "It Will Come Back". A folk and blues track riddled with expectation, anticipation and regretful information. "It Will Come Back" comes off of Hozier's self-titled debut album which was released in 2014. Who knew that by the time September rolls around already three years will have passed since Hozier hit the scene and completely changed up our playlist with at least a song or several on our iPods.
What gives "It Will Come Back" the attractive listening appeal is the desperate tone Hozier addresses. How the concept of "knowing better" should be the requirement to get through this struggle. The struggle which appears after the end of a break-up but the recipient keep showing up trying to patch up what wrong has been done. In this case, Hozier suggesting moving on is best, while the other keeps invoking that romantic pull towards interest. According to Hozier just throw the mercy out the door, no matter how much the attraction is between the two.
The bottleneck slide can be heard while Hozier promotes a howling vocal restraint. Hozier predicts what the consequences will be if one "feeds it" and "it will come back" even though we know Hozier is referring to a human. Even as the other person is acting more animalistic, or how relationships can go pass the unforgiving stage where two people are simply keeping the other alive out of familiarity.
Between the acoustic and drums offering a barrier needed to express just how intense the interaction... Hozier seeks a threating tone covered in the lines "don't you hear me howlin' babe". The entire song acts as a word of caution, a warning to let go when we should... or else.
