Euphorically Addictive

"I would say don’t be afraid to write something that’s actually catchy. I think a lot of people fear catchiness because they might think it’s not cool, or they want to be more edgy. Be true to you is the first thing, but after that don’t be afraid to write something that makes people have a good time. Those are the songs people love the most, the ones that they have fun to".

Bruce Driscoll, Atwood Magazine

Comparing love to drugs is nothing new - especially when you have the relatively recent body of neuroscience discourse to back up that simile. But "Junkie" the latest offering from LA indie pop band Freedom Fry (their name alludes to husband and wife duo's  trans-Atlantic origins: Bruce Driscoll was born and raised in Michigan, while Marie Seyrat was born in Paris), demonstrates why love remains an untiring subject matter for a pop song in their "upbeat, indie pop ode to being in love and hopelessly addicted to someone".

As the accompanying lyric video indicates, Freedom Fry's love addiction is unmistakably sweet, but not too saccharine to be off-putting. The charming retro-inspired track certainly befits the kind of sunny optimism one associates with LA music, as well as the duo's stated motive of making "organic music that you can dance to" and "making people feel better". The 70's vibe, layered fluttery vocals and warm atmosphere make out neurochemical dependency to be a state of utter bliss:

'OooOooGot a taste and now I guess I’m hooked on you,And no intervention ever seems to work it through,Face to face, there’s not much left for me to do,‘Cause I pull away but something pulls me back to you,Send me your love,Send me your letter,Tell me that it’s worse,Tell me that it’s better,Even if I want to,Even if I run away,When the night starts falling, I come crawling, I can’t get away,Even if I want to,Even if I go astray,God you in my blood,You’re my drug and I’m a junkieFor you,I’m a junkie,For you,I’m a junkie'
