Is life getting you down? "Trampoline", Parisian indie duo Papooz's (Armand Penicaut and Ulysse Cottin) second song from their debut album Green Juice (2016) to merit a music video is a near-perfect antidote for dampened and world-weary spirits. As with their viral hit "Ann Wants to Dance", the song's air melodies and energetic tropical-hued rhythm breezily lifts you into a calmer and more rarified state of mind:
'Pack up your bags and tamborine
Lets have one more drink before we go
Down to the station
You had plenty time to think, there's no going back cause you may know
It's an endless vacation
Love is just a trampoline, up and down down up and there you go
Your heart is multiplying
Tell it to the one you loved one day (hey) not so long ago
You beat your fear of flying
As for your folks upon the shore
It's time to say goodbye
Once more'
Lyrics: Musixmatch
Comparing love or life to a trampoline does not make for a particularly novel simile, but the track excels in taking you through the universal motions of everyday life - and then leaving you at a place where the pull of gravity is hardly felt. The accompanying music video - which sees Penicaut and Cottin hitting the road on an apparently motor-powered mattress with a vivacious redhead companion - is compellingly charming and whimsical.
