Six years after releasing their debut EP regret love guilt dreams (2011), fans of San Francisco bedroom pop trio The Bilinda Butchers (Michal Palmer, Adam Honingford, and Ryan Wansley) finally have some 'official' music videos to accompany their immersive brand of lush and hazy synth-laden sonic tapestries. While there is no video for "Tulips" as of yet, the kinetic melodies and nostalgic slant of "Boyfriend" have now been used to score a pink-hued, touching and realistic narrative of young love:
I didn't need a single one to call you my girlfriend so I'll be there when you are sad when you feel like you need someone when all hopes lost and you need to run I'll be your boyfriend we can stop by the hills with trees I'll pick a flower and I'll get on my knees and I'll ask you to marry me marry me'

The marriage proposal at the end of the song seems premature, but also unsurprising. The track's fast-paced tempo mirrors the pace of an rapidly pulsing heart, while the hushed, barely audible vocals make the lyrics sound like a monologue in the head of an obsessive young man - just waiting for the right moment (when courage aligns itself with opportunity) to burst out into song.
