Besides the typical indie genre Cigarettes After Sex drift (literally) towards a more ambient soundscape. Take the latest single 'K.' for example. While the track greatly serves the lo-fi sound, Cigarettes After Sex have upped the notch a bit. By offering a greatly sad rendition of yearning feeling with the track 'K.' the production also mimics an influence...possibly from the band Slowdive. To narrow the field down from just Slowdive their early 90's song "Dagger".A driven melancholy forms throughout 'K.' without becoming overly depressing. Cigarettes After Sex adjusts a sort of preview...which with an iconic band name, itself within the tune of the song suggests a solemn approach to an act only to be mixed with a hopeful outcome. Besides a cool name, overall what the sound Cigarettes After Sex creates is an atmosphere base (similar to the first album The xx created) but not identical. Whether or not this show-gaze/ambient exploration will continue on as the direction this band intends to go for see's the light of day. But on a fair note, melancholy hopeful intentions does break the barrier or hopelessness usually seen with this type of genre. A nice split in the mix. 'K.' was 2016 only single from the band yet as stated on Wikipedia (how reliable that information may be remains to be seen) suggests a yet to be announced full length album somewhere in 2017. Cigarette After Sex consists of four individuals from the El Paso, Texas area. Since the bands conception in 2008 the music industry has seen a steady growth of shoe-gaze, mellow psychedelic or ambient atmosphere type of bands. However, within the last two or three years those bands have gone off the radar. So as Cigarettes After Sex roughly builds a slow following via Bandcamp and Youtube. That slow progress has lead to tours around Europe and the United States.
