Describing Lily Allen is hard to do. That may be a fact itself however, Allen has proved nothing is quite sacred on a comical note. Also the year 2006 was a great year for new music especially in the United Kingdom. 'Smile' hit the gold standard in the United States and by the end of 2006 was marked as the 11th greatest song of the year in the United Kingdom. With an air of Reggae, Ska, Indie, Hip Hop and Allen's signature "I could care less" vocals...a goldmine was bound to be uncovered.'Smile' conveys daily life, a relationship with a player and the early twenties life easily plays a major part. Plus as a teenage girl in 2006, Lily Allen was a blessing in disguise. A woman clearly sure of herself, taking care of any relationship business that had gone awry. Add in some possible revenge fantasies which seemed plausible...Allen gave us hope. Along with 'Smile's' danceable melody. Giving any young woman the creative nudge to scratch up an ex's (who happened to be a DJ) ultimate vinyl dance hit before he decides to play it at a club...was quite reassuring. As worthy Allen made us all feel, some of us feel an unpaid debt to the singer. But with only the greatest added admiration for a woman taking action into her own hands, instead of sitting around eating chocolate and crying.
Since the unveiling of 'Smile' in 2006, Lily Allen as of recent has stayed out of the limelight. The album 'Alright, Still' gained a large audience, notorious recognition and made Allen a household name. In 2014 Allen's 3rd studio album 'Sheezus' was released. However, 'Alright, Still' seems to still be the number one standing ovation for her last three records. Whether or not a 4th album could be on it's way remains to be seen.
