To state that Andrew McMahon is one of the only musicians deserving of some type of award or congratulations based on the music McMahon makes. Between the bands Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin, then venturing towards a solo career into Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness. Since McMahon's appearance in 1998 nothing has stopped him from crafting elegant, personal tales within these songs. Even a documentary titled Dear Jack was made based on McMahon's cancer treatment that occurred in 2005. Growing up with Andrew McMahon playing in the background...pretty much everywhere I went, McMahon slowly became this shinning beckon of light, this lead to the development as McMahon's music became a force to be wrestled with.
Back to the primary reason, Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness' newest track 'Walking In My Sleep'. The piano is sill a main focus in McMahon's music adding in a treated electronic component. Attached with meaningful lyrics and once the chorus comes to, a build of necessary vocals and instruments adds a hopefully expression.
What stands out with 'Walking In My Sleep' is the overall emotion present in the song. Andrew McMahon never failed at any attempt by not fully expressing the desired emotion the track was trying to promote. Another welcomed idea is that McMahon never feared with changing along with the times. When alternative college rock became a genre in the late 90's, pop rock in the early 2000's to an upsurge of indie/electronic music...McMahon has never been far behind.
As a decade rolls by and Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness builds a concrete name and continues to tour with bands likes Panic! at the Disco and Weezer, McMahon is a type of dark horse in the running, just not the suspected musician we once thought him to be. Life has thrown curveballs yet McMahon searches for one thing...a voice in the void by composing music not easily forgotten.
