Though the Presidential election may be over, the issues at hand are still far from distant. Drunken Logic carries their political message into the New Year with the extraordinary track and single, "What a Beautiful Morning!" The song and video have been garnering quite a bit of critical acclaim; not only for the music itself but for the viewpoint of the lyrics at hand. Drunken Logic is no stranger to sharing their feelings on political outlets. Also part of the 30 Days 30 Songs compilation, it's safe to say their message is being strongly heard.Frontman Jake Cassman says of the piece:
"We were planning on putting out a different song ahead of the election, but when we debuted it live in August it didn't quite feel right. And then that night I couldn't sleep, because I had an idea -- what if we made a music video for another song of ours, using nothing but public domain footage, like old 1950's PSA and newsreel clips? 'What A Beautiful Morning!' got at the sinister undertones of the Make America Great Again movement in a way the other song just didn't do. So we rehearsed and recorded the song in less than a month, while I kept scouring the web for clips for the music video. The video was finished three weeks after the song, and we got them both out a week before the election.
This is as fast as we've ever worked, and I'm so glad we got it done. It's one of the great privileges of our careers that we had an opportunity to take a stand against the most dangerous presidential candidate in modern history, and that we did it alongside so many other incredible artists. But we're going to need a lot more vigilance from artists and citizens over the next four years (at least)."
In the coming year we will hear the band launch a new release of politically driven songs, that will intrigue your ears and make your mind dig deep. We're on the edge of our seats and ready to listen already....
