Youthful Anxiety

"Summertime" is the first track from Moonguys' (an indie dreampop band from Atlanta, Georgia, led by Greg Gulbranson) debut album This Was the End (2016). The track's general aesthetic and sentiment might remind you of Hibou's "Above Us" - in the sense that it encapsulates youthful anxiety and apprehension about all the possibilities that the summer has to offer:

'Always waitingAlways dreaming ofthe summertime

Always hopingAlways prayingfor a second try'

Lyrics: Musixmatch

The lush and escapist bedroom pop backdrop that opens the track perfectly scores the introverted lyrical persona's anxieties about 'missing out' on life and love, as well as his meditations on the futility of trying:

'And I know I know I'm gonna failI know I have to try my shareAnd I know there's a dream but I know I don't wanna find it there'.

The track falters in doing full justice to the intensity of the confession that precedes the final iteration of the chorus, but it hits that final note of unrequited longing perfectly.
