Lake Street Dive comes together as organically as one band can. With the members in one way or another alread accomplished musicians or hailing from musician parents, either way Lake Street Dive clearly has a status in the world of music. After winning The John Lennon Songwriting Contest, they were able to officially launch the band off the ground. By playing close to home from 2010-2011. It would be within these past few years Lake Street Dive are gaining notoriety. Their song 'You Go Down Smooth' from the album 'Bad Self Portraits' is a great example while being exposed to Lake Street Dive's catalog of songs. Adding that Rachel Price (lead singer) has a handy degree in Jazz, vocally Price wrangles a free Jazz style full of ambition. Which with the rest of band equally tie up the loose ends by plugging in and playing any track ranging from blues, jazz, country, folk and the list goes on and on.

While Lake Street Dive's newest album Side Pong breaks away and edges towards an R&B, 1960's rock n' roll format. It goes to show how versatile of a band of musicians this group happens to carry.

In whatever fashion or sanction, Lake Street Dive showcase  a wonderful appeal in 'You Go Down Smooth' jumping around between blue styled lyrics, adding a personal touch of reality and confusion. All the while a free jazz component widely takes the advantage and allows the audience to break free and let loose, all to enjoy the music.
