Over Driven By The Woods

'Woods' by Bon Iver hasn't seen the popularity like his other tracks such as 'Skinny Love' that has gained a noted audience. Bon Iver already stated a name for himself with his albums 'Blood Bank' and 'For Emma, Forever Ago'.

So why would I want to write about 'Woods'...well allow us to take you on a mini music adventure that may open your eyess a bit wider. 'Woods' is in the more primal candidate region, full of thick layers of Bon Iver's voice. In a way, the layers Iver places replicates the differing volume of sections, one would hear their own voice if they were shouting or talking in a wooded area. Imagine recording a verse followed by voices echoing at elevated pitches between screams, whispers or a monotone dialogue. 'Woods' gently traps the listener in, then gradually ascends to so many levels that Bon Iver should have been commended for this track.

However, I happened to hear this track in an episode for a UK television show. Ironically they had their character having a mntal break, running through the woods which to whomever the musical curator was...found a genius peak within that silent moment by playing this song.

The echoing vibrations play a vital role because for a moment Bon Iver extends the whole Folk, Lo-Fi and Americana section. Then somehow by pure brilliance crashes into our emotions by using a loop effect to bring home the best prize of all...a song worthy of building a career.
