“Mooger Fooger” is one of the longest-standing band on the vivid Macedonian alternative scene. The band and the music were conceptualized and formed under the leadership of the guitar player Sead Hadzic - Secko, after the disbandment of his former group “Last Expedition” which he forefronted with his brother and singer Enko. Last Expedition were very popular in the 90’s but stopped working at the end of that decade. Secko felt the need to continue with his music, for the purpose of which he formed Mooger Fooger with several young Macedonian musicians. With influences ranging from American psychedelic music of the late 60s to British indie rock bands of the 80s, they managed to build their own sound. With their hard driven riffs and creative guitar textures, Mooger Fooger attracted the attention of the audiences and the critics short time after their first performances and succeeded to maintain their position as one of the most sought-after acts in the country.
Their first releases were heavily rooted in the psychedelic realms of rock, with walls of guitar noises, effects, hazy vocals, and hypnotic beats. The band’s signature was the excessive use of effects in creating their sound, that is actually quite “clean”, having in mind that one can rarely see such amount of effect pedals on stage. Even the name “Mooger Fooger” comes from the eponymous series of analog effects pedals manufactured by Moog Music. Sead Hadzic - Secko is a well-known collector of vintage equipment, especially guitars and effects, but also amplifiers, tape-recorders, microphones, and other analog rarities. All the group’s music was recorded and performed on this kind of equipment.
Lately, the band focused more on writing songs with lyrics and “proper” arrangements. Enjoying his status of an underground icon, Secko collaborated with the cult protagonists of the Macedonian alternative scene, managing to attract even more fans and positive reviews. Here are some of the new songs by Mooger Fooger, and if this intrigued you in any way, feel free to visit their Bandcamp and Soundcloud pages for more music.
