Who knew pastel could conjure up so many feelings. In Violet by the band (creatively named) Hippo Campus has a Vampire Weekend Indie appeal but this group of guys play a bit harder. As the music video protrays a headbanging bass played (which every music video needs), pastel walls, Americanized items that end up being destroyed and Violet (who may be a tough girl) likes to start riots.
Easily a Pop Punk vibe starts out the song, remember when the early 2000's held out so much hope. Well Hippo Campus has revived that loveable ability without becoming overly campy or a joke. Violet comes off as an ode or letter to any individual girl with a feminine name that objects to injustice and wants to start a revolution. Then again this could just be a song about a tough chick that went a bit crazy. Nevertheless the song about the girl will never not be a hit.
Again Indie cred is meant to be hand delivered when ever possible, Hippo Campus have without a doubt made Indie a bit harder and fun.
