Jusme Da One Gets Personal in His Newest Hip Hop Single “Aspire to Greatness”

North Carolina native John Turner, professionally known as Jusme Da One, comes from a musical background. His father and his 11 aunts and uncles were all in a gospel group. Jusme Da One was in his grade school band, high school jazz band, and played drums with a couple of churches throughout his life. To say he’s experienced would be an understatement. 

He started writing his own songs in his early teens and has written hundreds as a hobby for 20 years. He was never ready to make that commitment to music, until now. His newest single, “Aspire to Greatness,” from his upcoming album of the same name, is now available on Spotify. The song boasts of modern day Hip Hop with a rhythm like that of Kendrick Lamar accompanied by vocals like that of Wiz Khalifa.

The song begins with a slow, yet strong piano that leads into the synthetic beat you hear in every modern day Hip Hop song. As the song progresses, we hear horns, which solidifies the strength of the song. It’s all about how he overcame obstacles and still achieved greatness. He reminds us that we all have it in us and challenges us to see it. “This was the first song I wrote for the album and I wanted it to set the tone for the entire project,” says Jusme Da One. “I shared many personal aspects of my life that I never felt comfortable sharing in the past.”
