Guitarist Dan Zalles Releases Versatile New Album, Resting Place

Dan Zalles is the indie music scene’s one man show. With titles like songwriter, vocalist, guitar enthusiast, music and video producer (his Youtube is loaded with amazing content), bassist, and educator, there is nothing this man can’t do. Dan Zalles has ventured away from his many projects, Slide Dogs, British Wire Gauge, and Outer Half to name a few, to release his highly anticipated solo album. His love of music has brought us to this new record of honesty, entitled Resting Place.

Dan graces us with a “pandemic album" which was mostly written and recorded during Covid. The album is an honest reflection from these trying times as well as a beautiful escape from it, with instrumentals such as “Rain or Shine.” He wrote it while watching the rain fall in his garden, basking in the comforting realization that he didn't have to go outside of his own space to appreciate the beautiful little slice of nature. With his production skills shining bright on all songs except for for two (which he had composer, producer and film music supervisor Marcus Barone lend his skills on) Dan Zalles proves that you can be in control of your own craft if you just try hard enough.

This 1960s New York sound is laced with traces of Americana and Folk influences, and leaves you feeling like you should be sitting in a smokey bar sipping on the finest brandy. The songs on this album, Resting Place, sit at the intersection of Americana, Blues and Classical Jazz with an essence of familiarity. For his title track, “Resting Place" his lyric “Ain't nothing bad but the cold hard truth. It aint pleasure if it aint pain…” can resonate with any listener.

The album as a whole encompasses everything you want to hear in a multifaceted artist like Dan Zalles.
