In times when music is obsessively treasured, releasing a free album is a bold statement, especially If we are talking about someone who is a rising star and who could easily get a lot of money for his work.
Chance released a dignified sequel to one of the best mixtapes of 2013 (Acid Rap). Contrary to the previous product, he says he is completely satisfied with this one. What’s interesting is that this is another free release, which is not that big of a surprise when it comes to tapes nowadays. One of the best album of 2015, Surf, that would not happen without Chance’s impact, was also available for free download.
Chance is an authentic storyteller. He is the man who inspired Kanye West to record a gospel album. Kanye’s love for the gospel rapper is so profound that he delayed the release of The Life of Pablo just so that he could comprise Chance’s track Waves. The track shows how Chance The Rapper is the medicine for Kanye’s mental issues.
Coloring Book opens a track that features Kanye West and Chicago’s children choir. Music is all we got, the choir sings. The rest of the album is an hour long ride to the church. He took his black brothers out of the striptease clubs and invited them to a gospel party. Religious sound leading the tape represents dedication to all the things that make the life worth living. Besides celebration of God, Chance celebrates music. It is especially conspicuous when he sings with Young Thug and Lil Yatchy about the phenomenon of the mixtape that changed the perception of rap music in the 21st century.
I’m the only nigga still care about mixtapes
Bad little bitch wanna know how lips taste
Long story short: Rap prophecy.
