Well, this is Gira. And that means everything. Gira is so human that sometimes he seems to be not a human at all. He is a monument and a spirit; he is conscious, love and pain; he is phenomenon and a gift to this beautiful and not perfect world. No, the world is perfect – we are not perfect in it. And Michael Gira is our conscious telling us that something is not ok. He does everything right and gives us a chance to listen and hear. And understand. Try some pain, try some love – go ahead. Michael Gira released this beautiful album of 18 songs called “I Am Not This”. It is calm, deep and hitting the spot somewhere deep inside of a human soul. Some of these songs are known and reinterpreted. Some of those songs you could hear at one of his solo live shows. All these songs are like short and powerful prayers which are actual and needed always. Gira is all about that. He just sits with his guitar in his black shirt and sings a pure beauty which is not actually beautiful sometimes. And there is no any reason in this world to resist it. All you have to do is let these songs inside you. Let them in. Give them a chance to make you clean and good. The path is hard; it is the one and only path through pain, sadness and a quiet beauty. And this path is inevitable if you are a human being with all its greatness and ugliness.
“I Am Not This” is available only at Gira’s current series of solo performances. And this album just like any other of his works is worth sitting and listening to it.
