Third album of a talented electronic musician Chris Clark who performs under simple name Clark was warm supersonic hug of cordial welcoming into the sci-fi surrounding of metal bells from the frozen pulsators followed by strictly controlled computerized percussions. Although it initially appears as a clone of some of its predecessors, this small masterpiece was certainly not that. I assure you.
Symphonies of electro orchestra made in Clark's workshop throw the shadows of their long fingers over hip hop rhythms and metal drums. Small army of musicians from microchip samples and other digital instruments for transportation into higher dimensions forms virtual and audio identity of pure, organic matter that materializes right in front of the listener. Boddy Riddle was always that kind of an album that demands utmost attention. You need to focus on every detail of the production that was pretty aberrant for that time.
What made this album stand out from its predecessors, Clarence Parkand Empty The Bones Of You? Well, it was much more complex, and recorded with higher confidence. More importantly, Clark's third material was eclectic, compared to the basic design of Empty The Bones Of You. The architecture of textures was mesmerizing. He did not desperately try to distance himself from other musicians in the niche, as Four Tet and DJ Shadow were always aiming. Instead, he created segments highly reminiscent of Boards Of Canada and Aphex Twin. This fact serves as evidence that style is only the starting point from Clark who uses it as a base for constructing his own sonic universe. This brave new world exists with a lot of emotions - fear, sadness, happiness, love, death.
Now throwback the shi* out of this record!
