… and it’s a hell of the news. Tricky is a genius. He is one of those artists who are the essence and the basics of today’s good music. His name is a synonym for good music to me. Tricky’s experiments, sense of sound and conceptual vision of music is just a good example for those who want to be in music industry for real.
So Tricky runs this label called False Idols. And Skilled Mechanics is his side-project released through False Idols. It’s a pretty serious experiment; it has a huge potential. The point is, he’s invited different artists – pretty famous and newbies – and recorded this album with them. Different styles, different concepts and experiences – all this is mixed with Tricky’s unique style. So he gives artists a big opportunity, makes another outstanding record and promotes his own label. A perfect plan; and it does work. Definitely.
The album is released January 22, 2016. Fresh, deep, experimental, different. The line-up is pretty interesting. Just check out collaborators: DJ Milo, Luke Harris, Chinese Rapper Ivy 艾菲, Franchesca Belmonte, Renata Platon, Ann Dao, Xdare and Oh Land.
Skilled Mechanics sounds like Tricky and it’s great. A new step, a bit different act, but each sound and emotion is known and familiar. Tricky is viscous, deep, dark right to the point. Skilled Mechanics could not fail anyway. By the way, Skilled Mechanics is the name given to the trained assassins being sent by the US government abroad to start revolutions. Tricky saw documentary about these assassins and this term – Skilled Mechanics – stuck with him.
The album contains 13 songs. 13 really fat songs made by really skilled musicians and talented people. Listening to “Here My Dear” for the third time non stop. So simple and so gorgeous. This is the music. This is how it should be done.
