Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the next witness to take the stand and provide testimony is Ava Cherry, with “Testify Love”. Chicago’s Southside citizen Ava Cherry has been consistently making music since the early 1970s and making it with an array of some very talented artists. That list would include David Bowie, Curtis Mayfield, Luther Vandross and many, many others. From R&B/Soul to Dance and Rock music her stylistic spectrum is equally as wide as it is varied.
“Testify Love” is a classic club banger. It works on a visceral level that dance floor DJs love to pump out and turn up throughout the night. Ava belts out the melody on the microphone like a heavyweight champ at a title fight. Full of emotion and grit this single is the second one to come out on the Wake Up! Music imprint for her. A few months back they dropped her Bowie tribute, “Let’s Dance”, a finely crafted cover of his classic 1983 hit song.
Over the years Ava Cherry has acted and modeled, sung and composed music, and traveled the world. Upon meeting David Bowie at a party hosted by Stevie Wonder she was immediately asked to accompany him on a Japanese concert tour. Fate had other plans though and before the tour was even launched it had to be canceled due to health issues that had begun to plague the Ziggy Stardust superstar. Even though, their paths did cross over and over again during the years and the two of them collaborated on many musical projects.
“Testify Love” is yet another benchmark in Cherry’s storied career. Word on the street is that she’ll be releasing a full-length album with the Wake Up! Music label sometime later this year. As many have frequently repeated in the past, often it’s the waiting that’s the hardest part.
