You can tell that at the end of the first year of One Direction’s hiatus, members of the group are getting restless. Probably sparked by the successful year Zayn has had, all members are now rumored to be seriously working on their own solo careers. Niall Horn released his first song at the end of the summer and now, just before the year’s end, Louis Tomlinson is the third (former?) One Direction member to release his own work.
Louis Tomlinson has chosen to kick his career off with a collaboration and it’s not a shabby one either. Together with DJ Steve Aoki, he’s released “Just Hold On”. The song is a club banger that will rock any party or festival, but it also holds a deeper meaning. It definitely holds a deeper meaning to me.
Just like anyone else I’m looking towards the new year with the intend to set up my New Year’s resolution. I’m mainly looking at giving a few things up and I’m not talking about bad habits, haha. Nope, I’m keeping those, but just goals that took up a lot of effort and it didn’t look like I’m making any progress. Yep, I’m at the verge of giving up.
When I first heard this song, the first hook of the lyrics really hit me to describe the crossroad I’m at: “What do you do when a chapter ends? Do you close the book or never read it again? Where do you go when your story’s done? You can be who you were or who you become”. Those are the kinds of lyrics that empowers people.
In terms of music, the song has all the classic elements you’ve come to expect from a radio friendly dance songs. Think of lots of simple “Oooooh’s” to sing along with, and drums that lead up to a climax that make you want to wave your hands in the air. Not bad for a first solo endeavor. It really shows that the song comes from one of the biggest DJ’s around right now.
I think 2017 will be an interesting year for the former One Direction members. Zayn is planning a new album and, according to all the rumors, Louis and Niall are also planning releases. So, for the first time ever, they might go head to head with their releases. Wonder which direction it will go then?
