When you ask a DJ to deliver the leading track for your sports event, you can prepare to receive a dance anthem bound to make any sold out stadium come to life. David Guetta teamed up with Zara Larsson for his latest release, created to be UEFA’s official 2016 song.
The UEFA has been creating theme songs for several years, but this year it’s been a surprising move that they’ve asked someone as popular among young people as David Guetta. David Guetta then turned right around and got all those young people involved.
Along with Zara Larsson, the song also features one million music and football fans. Wow!
The song, “This One’s For You”, was released just a few days ago and it really is everything you would expect from a song for an event. The song will be used for both the opening and closing ceremony of UEFA’s EURO 2016, as well as a special free gig in Paris (France) on June 9th, 2016. So, if you’re near the Eiffel Tower on that day, you should check that out.
Whether you should check out the song really depends on how much you are into soccer. David Guetta really paid close attention to the briefing he got for the songs’ creation, so the hook really sounds more like a chant and it gives you everything you need to keep the energy going in a crowd. Hey, leave it up to an experienced DJ to know how to do that.
However, if you love dance music, this is not really an impressive song. It’s very commercially calculated: A song that hits all the marks of a good radio friendly dance track.
Zara’s vocals are incredibly strong and really helps the song’s message of empowerment. Lyrically, it is clever, because anyone could stand behind the lyrics at the beginning of the event - supporting their favorite team - and anyone could apply it to the winning team, at the end of the games.
But, in the end, this one is not for me.
