Bang on collabo!

Out of all the dance tracks that I had on my list to listen to this week, this one is my favorite.

Eva Simons “Bludfire” and Major Lazer’s “Light It Up” are all ok, but there’s something that happens to a song once Sia sings on it.

I’m not a big fan of Sia, partially because of her struggle with being recognized. It just makes me not understand her. In music, you could then choose to stay in the background, but out in the open, you know it’s part of the job. So, whenever I think of Sia, “constraint” is the first word I think of.

But as much as I might try to dislike her, her music usually sways me over. It’s in the way she uses her voice and interprets lyrics. She’s so original in that. It makes her have her own identity and because of that she’s pulled into the, by her, dreaded limelight.

It’s that identity that she, once again, adds to a David Guetta track. Without her on it, I would think this is not his best work. It’s a typical Guetta track. I always feel like that songs like these probably come with the greatest ease for him. I would imagine he threw it together on a plane while traveling from one festival to the next.

Then, when you let Sia do her thing on it, magic happens. It makes me want to bang my head against the wall, because they have done it again.

Their last collaboration, “Titanium”, became a dance floor anthem. I was writing with a team of producers at the time this one was floating around, and we only got requests from every dance artist who wanted tracks to sound just like that.

It’s a sure thing to be a golden oldie kind of a classic many years from now.

This catchy and upbeat tune has got the potential for the same, though “Titanium” hits you right away and this one needed a second listen for me.

For whatever reason the music on the hook reminds me of the sound from these Eurodance acts in the late 90s. It’s due to its reggae influence. But also the combination of Sia singing and Fetty Wap rapping. That’s the classic signature style of those days. However, the track is updated though. There’s just an obvious hint there.

Altogether, I think this is a bang on collaboration.
