For who is this the right song?

For me, this week seems to carry a theme and the theme is: dance videos.

From writing about Elton John, for Kurrent Music, to writing about the new video by The Chemical Brothers & Beck, for my own website. All of which had a video revolving around a dancer or dancers and while all of those had interesting, humanly impossible, twists in their videos, “The Right Song” is something you could do at the office, after business hours.

In fact, that’s exactly what the video is about and it gives you a new perspective on what you could with a vacuum cleaner. I mean, I usually have fights with mine, but in the video one just gets a little bit of romance.

For me, the main trigger to this video, was not the video, but the fact that Natalie La Rose is on the track. She’s an interesting story. She’s one of those Dutch artists with an international career and the, oh so desired, chart topping songs in the American Billboard Hot 100. But, where we back home, already knew people like Eva Simons, when she got international fame, Natalie La Rose was actually unknown to us.

In her own music, she represents R&B, with her biggest hit being “Somebody”, so I’m expecting something interesting with her feature on this track.

“The Right Song” is definitely one of those compromise dance tracks intended for radio. The hook is catchy and you can sing to it right away, but it still remains a highly club feel in the verses.

It’s no surprise it attracted almost 450,000 views in like two days. I think that has a lot to do with the names involved with the track. Because for whatever reason, I actually don’t feel this track is coming together the way you would expect when good musicians come together.

A little research showed that the song is based on an earlier collaboration between Tiësto and Oliver Heldens called “Wombass”, released in November 2015. This instrumental song actually seems to work better.

It’s much easier to get into right away, while “The Right Song” took me about 3 plays to get into, and then still, I think the hooks are the best parts of the song and am still having some problems with the vocals on the verses. According to the comments on YouTube, I’m not the only one running into this problem with this song. Perhaps it’s right for you though.
