Insecurity and integrity are explored here. Beauty has been scarred deeply, and this band know firsthand the hurt that creeps up in stages. Letting go is easy, grasping onto the prize and fighting for hope in a world decaying is tiring, but validating.

Dream State are the act fearlessly entering debut album territory with courage. Optimism may not show fully throughout the record Primrose Path, but it has its moments.

Darkness exudes. Hope dangles like a breaking clock hand, and trusted chords are utilised. From start to finish, the listener is taken through worlds in which anxiety is at the forefront. Depression is also a mainstay, drastic lyrics feature predominantly, cutting through the barrage of noises.

Instrumentally the record is a force to be reckoned with. Inside the heart of it, raucous guitars and heart pumping drumbeats intertwine to create a loud monster. And Primrose Path isn’t for the faint-hearted nor is it for the casual listener, it is a gallant, cathartic, behemoth, that turns up the volume.

Crisis is never going to be averted and Dream State know this wholeheartedly. Their ambitions are clear on Primrose Path, but it could all fade into black. The subject matter isn’t a grandiose look at life, it’s an insight into the human condition, the jagged thoughts, the alarming pace in which a mind-set can change.

First off, we’re given a blockbuster song in the form of  Made Up Smile. It begins with a subtle intro and soft vocals. It then blasts through the cobwebs and releases volatility. Perceptions are lost, the world is a crippled animal, and this is all heard within the lyrics.

Musically, the track takes linear guitar strokes up a notch . It is a fundamental opening to a thriving album.

Open Windows is full of energy. Although it’s loud and frantic, there’s a dismaying undercurrent underneath. Vocally, it’s desirable. Musically it’s a game changer.

Twenty Letters commences slowly. Guitars and frenzied vocals are then implemented. Screams of rage punch in. It isn’t a timid chronicle but an inspiring one.

Primrose is a scintillating contribution. The vocals slowly build up and are placed intricately. Lyrically, it supports the darkness. Growls pound the musical venom, and the protagonist of this story is hitting a landslide.

Dream State are a band itching to release themselves from the shackles of insecurity and anxiety. Primrose Path is their statement of intent and their courageous strike for wellness.
